We are delighted to welcome back eLife as a Hack24 Challenge Sponsor!

The eLife team

eLife is a non-profit organisation inspired by research funders and led by scientists. Its mission is to help scientists accelerate discovery by operating a platform for research communication that encourages and recognises the most responsible behaviours in science.

eLife is a unique collaboration between the funders and practitioners of research to improve the way important research is selected, presented and shared by exploiting new technologies. The research, from all areas of the life and biomedical sciences, is selected and evaluated by working scientists and is made freely available to all readers without delay. eLife also invests in innovation through open-source tool development to accelerate research communication and discovery.

Naomi Penfold with the winners of Hack24 2017's eLife challenge, the Bad Hombres

We are immensely happy to have eLife once again be a part of Hack24 this year. The organisation will be putting forward an enticing challenge and awesome prize for the Hack24 hackers and we can’t wait to find out what they are!

To whet your appetite, the eLife challenge last year was to “improve research communication using new technologies”, and the winning team was the Bad Hombres who prototyped a chat app for scientists to collaborate on graphs, equations and more – you can read more on the eLife Labs blog and take a look at their hack video below:

We encourage you to have a click around the eLife website – it is absolutely fascinating. The eLife magazine page is a firm favourite of ours!

As a challenge setter last year, we experienced just how collaborative and welcoming Hack24 is, so it was an easy decision to come back again for 2018. We look forward to putting the challenges in scientific communication in front of this talented crowd once more.
